Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the moderately difficult trekkings in the Annapurna Region of Nepal. The major attractions of the 10 days trek to ABC are the alluring view of various highest mountains like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli, walks through the typical mountainous villages and through the forest covered with flowers and diverse flora and fauna and also getting the opportunity to taste the local cuisines prevailing among the mountainous people in Nepal. The  journey begins from Kathmandu and takes you to Pokhara with a bus ride for about 7 hours. The road passes through countryside, sometimes along the ridge, along the river and sometimes leads though the beautiful forests. You will see several local markets and villages along the road and you will get to stop at various places for tea and foods.

Pokhara is one of the beautiful cities of Nepal with several lakes and places of tourist attractions. On the second day of ABC Trek a public jeep takes you from Pokhara towards Nayapul, from where the hiking begins. The trails are very easy to walk and pass through beautiful villages and forests, cross suspension bridges at different places and you will get to see people engaged in their agricultural fields.

Upon reaching Ghandruk, your excitement would be doubled. Ghandruk is a well known traditional village of Gurung community and has Gurung museums where you can enjoy excursions to understand the civilization, culture, tradition and lifestyle of the Gurung community. The most exciting part of the Ghandruk is the alluring view of Mount Annapurna South, Mount Annapurna III, Mount Gangapurna, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre.

On the third day, the route then takes you towards Chomrong, one of the beautiful villages situated in the Annapurna Region of Nepal. This village will offer you the view of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli. Likewise on the fourth day of Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, the hike goes through beautiful trails crossing several forests and villages and enjoying the picture perfect views alongside throughout the day unless reaching Bamboo village for a night stay. ABC Trek provides a picturesque setting of the views of himalayas and peaceful environment around the Bamboo Village, which is located at the bank of Madi Khola. Bamboo is famous for sunrise views and also for the view of the nearby mountains.

Coming to the fifth day of the trek to Annapurna Region, you will ascend towards Deurali through bamboo and rhododendron forests.
The next day will reward you with Annapurna Base Camp which is at an altitude of 4,130 meters from the mean sea level. The trails towards ABC are surrounded with massive and grand mountains and the hiking is very exciting. Best time for Annapurna Base Camp Trek

With over more than a decade of experience in organizing and leading trekking around Annapurna Region, we found February, March, April, May, October, November and December as the best months to hit the road towards ABC Trek. It is advised not to travel during the monsoon seasons on the grounds that the path becomes slippery due to rainfall and also the trekking may not become exciting due to poor visibility around the trekking routes and also from the Annapurna Base Camp.

It is crucial to choose the timing depending upon the nature that you want to dwell with. If you are keenly interested to walk during the time with no rainfall and with the mesmerizing views of new flowers blooming around your trekking trails, it is wise to choose months like February and March. Likewise, if you wish to hike during the months with probable snow falls around the Annapurna Region, then November and December would be the best time for Annapurna Base Camp. Tour Plan
Day 01

The very first day of your trekking begins with a bus ride from Kathmandu towards Pokhara, which will be around 7 to 8 hours bus travel. The road goes from countryside, forests and along the top bank of the rivers at several places. You will see several market places during the journey towards Pokhara. The elevation of Pokhara is 830 meters above mean sea level.

Day 02

The second day of your journey begins with a jeep drive from Pokhara heading towards Nayapul. Upon reaching Nayapul, hike starts towards the stone paved steps passing through beautiful villages, forests and rivers crossing few suspension bridges and watching flowers like rhododendron blooming in the forests. As you hike further you may see people engaging in the farm work, agricultural lands and innocent children playing around the routes. Today you will break your journey at one of the famous and beautiful villages named Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a typical Gurung Village and is also a viewpoint that offers the stunning view of several mountains like Annapurna Ranges, Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli. Ghandruk is also famous for its early morning sunrise view.

Day 03

With an early morning breakfast, hike begins in the fresh air through the green lushes, colorful forests and agricultural lands. The trekking routes are easier and also the elevation gain is only 230 meters, which is comparatively less. Walking through off the beaten routes enjoying the
beauty of nature reinforces your excitement and makes you refresh throughout the day. You will find tea houses and local shops at several places on your way. Today you will stay at another beautiful village named Chomrong, from where you will be offered the views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli.

Day 04

On the fourth day, you will head towards Bamboo village through rhododendron and bamboo forests at most of the part of the trekking route. You will find tea houses and local shops on the way where you can break your journey for a while for rest, take tea and eat some snacks over
there.

Day 05

Bamboo is a beautiful village situated at the bank of the Madi Khola. The most alluring part of trekking in Annapurna region is the chance to get a clearer view of snow capped mountains. Like the previous day, this day also offers you amazing views of mountains like Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli.

Day 06

As you ascend up towards ABC, all you experience is the montane landscape, frozen rivers and glaciers throughout the hiking. The journey is quite adventurous and challenging today. On the way is another piece of heaven Machhapuchhre Base Camp situated at an altitude of 3,700 meter above the sea level. You will be able to experience the closest view of Mount Annapurna, Mount Machhapuchhre and Mount Hiunchuli throughout the day.

Day 07

You will wake up early in the morning with an aim to view the stunning early morning sunrise from the Annapurna Ranges. After breakfast, you will retrace your journey towards Bamboo with the rewarding views of snow capped mountains all over your trip. The trail drops down along the Modi Khola to reach the Bamboo.

Day 08

Early morning breakfast. You will then hit the route towards Jhinu Danda. The trail enters through the forests of bamboo and rhododendron and drops down through Chomrung and takes you to a hot spring. You will take your lunch here and descend down to the hot spring to enjoy it until the afternoon.

Day 09

Today is the second last day of your trip to ABC. The trail passess ridges of the small hills and goes along the Modi River to reach the Nayapul, where you will take a jeep and ride towards

Pokhara for your night stay.
 

Day 10

Early morning breakfast. You will then take a bus ride and return back to Kathmandu, which is about a 7 to 8 hours journey. You will be stopped on the way for lunch. The bus goes through the roads in the countryside, through forests and through small markets.

  • Get enough knowledge regarding the trek itinerary, accommodations and fooding options, nature of hiking trails, weather conditions and prepare backpacks accordingly.
  • Make sure you are fit to walk around 6 to 7 hours everyday during your trekking period.
  • Choose acclimatization as per suggestion from your trekking guide.
  • Do not panic if you feel any sorts of headache, shortness in breath or difficulty in walking as a result of altitude sickness. Take enough rest, walk slowly, drink enough water to remain hydrated throughout the journey and also choose good food to eat.
